How to Paint Basement Walls

It helps to add some color and life into your basement so that you can use it for whatever purpose you have in mind. One of the best and more affordable ways that you will be able to do this is to paint the basement walls. This is not at all difficult if you know what supplies you need and how to get it all done.

Materials You’ll Need

  1. Cleaning supplies
  2. Paint brushes or rollers
  3. Primer
  4. Paint

What To Do

The first thing that you have to do is get the walls ready to be primed and than painted. If the room has been framed and the walls are built using drywall than you will not have to do too much. If you have stone or concrete walls than you must clean them before you start painting. Remove any dirt and debris and repair any leaks that are in the walls. Make sure the wall is dry before you do anything else.

Now prime the walls. This is not very expensive and is going to make the painting a whole lot easier for you. Apply enough of the primer along the walls and allow it to dry thoroughly before you apply any of the paint. It is best to wait a couple of days to allow it to dry.

Pick out the basement walls that you love. Make sure to use one that is water resistant to avoid any problems. Apply it carefully and not too thickly or it will smear. Let the first coat dry before you apply the second or even the third coat if it is necessary.
